MForesight’s past work has recognized the enormous potential created by Smart Manufacturing (aka, Industry 4.0) to reshape and restore U.S. manufacturing. Yet surveys have shown that small and medium-sized manufacturers (SMMs) have made little progress in implementing the technology. To help, MForesight is beginning a new project that will present the technologies in simple terms and identify examples of vendors and prices of technology appropriate for smaller firms. In consultation with manufacturers, consultants, and technology providers, the project will match technology solutions with specific “pain points” typically encountered on the shop floor of SMMs and provide a practical path forward. Based on initial conversations, this project will address an unmet need and make a strong contribution to accelerating the pace of implementation of Smart Manufacturing across the full spectrum of U.S. manufacturing.
